Scaling a wildfire-resilient future: merging tradition, technology and global action

On November 17, as part of the Wildfire Action Accelerator Launch in Brazil, Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and TED Countdown convened a high-level workshop at the TED Countdown House focused on building wildfire-resilient communities and forests in a rapidly changing climate.

The event addressed the growing threat of megafires worldwide and explored integrated strategies that combine Indigenous knowledge, advanced science, innovative risk management tools and forward-looking public policy. Discussions highlighted the urgency of cross-sector and cross-border collaboration to scale solutions that can reduce wildfire risk while protecting ecosystems and livelihoods.

The session featured insights from Mark Moroge, Vice President of Forests at EDF; Francisca Arara, Indigenous leader of the Arara people in Brazil; Amy Barnes, Global Head of Energy and Power at Marsh; and Daniela Limongi, Vice Minister of Environment and Energy of Ecuador. Together, speakers emphasized that effective wildfire resilience depends on aligning traditional wisdom with modern technology and coordinated global action.

The workshop reinforced the Wildfire Action Accelerator’s mission to drive practical, scalable solutions for a more resilient future in the face of increasing wildfire risk.
